- Susan Austin
- Instructor and Director of Academic Enrichment
Johnston Community College
MyWritingLab - As a self-professed
“former worst student,”
Susan enjoys helping her students find their comfort zone as they achieve their educational goals. She remembers how it felt to struggle as a college student; therefore, she strives to develop innovative classroom experiences and she enjoys developing programs to help students achieve academic success. One of her most successful programs is the“Wise Up Workshop.”
Her department also offers“Grammar to Go”
and“Math to Go”
mini workshops which offer quick lessons on basic concepts. In the classroom, Susan believes in layered learning which means she tries to incorporate all learning strategies such as visual, verbal and tactile methods, and she thinks that textbook technology such as MyWritingLab only strengthens the student’s opportunity to learn the concepts of her English course. Susan holds a BS in Communication/Broadcast News Concentration and an MA in English/Technical and Professional Communication from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. - Courses taught: I use MyWritingLab in English 090/090A (lab online), and our school uses it for English 080 and 070.

- Student Center Support Manager
San Joaquin Valley College
MyWritingLab, MyWritingLab - After attending Pepperdine University I began my career working in the college setting by serving in the Residential Life Department of small college in Wyoming. Upon my return to California I took a position as a Professional Development trainer for Tulare County Employees. After some time I transferred into other business ventures and eventually landed as a business instructor with SJVC. I was quickly promoted into the Student Center Coordinator position and managed early retention and student success for one of the campuses in the SJVC family. After only 6 months of success in that position I was promoted into the Student Center Support Manager role where I provide vision and support for all 11 student centers in the SJVC family. On a personal note, I have been married for nearly 6 years and have two beautiful daughters (Maddie and Eva, ages 3 and 2) and another child on the way. When I'm not working or playing with my children I am usually watching hockey or football on TV!
- I have been using MML and MWL in an instructor capacity since December of 2009. I have been using MML and MWL in an administrator capacity since March of 2010. I have been using MyLabsPlus in an administrator capacity since June of 2010.

All incoming students are required to assess in the MyMathLab and MyWritingLab systems and then complete the subsequent study plans (thus fulfilling their developmental education commitment). I have used both stand alone MyMathLab and MyWritingLab courses as well as MyLabsPlus integrated versions of both platforms.

- Adjunct Instructor
Broward College, Central
MyWritingLab Florida - I was born and raised in New Jersey until I moved to Florida when I was fourteen years old. I struggled academically most of my life. When I started college, I had to take every single prep class in existence, and had there been more, I’d have been in those too. But I was bound and determined to succeed, no matter what it took. Years later, I graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s in English. Today, I teach the very course I started off in. It is my experience as a student that drives my passion to help other prep students. In many of my students, I see a part of me, so I work extra hard to make sure they learn the fundamental skills and prepare them for college level work.
- My hobbies include reading, writing, swimming, and watching movies.
- Courses taught: Eng 0021 College Prep Writing II
- Course format: Traditional
- Book in use: I no longer use a textbook edition since Florida MyWritingLab is now live.

- Donna Taylor
- Professor of Reading, English, and Psychology
Arizona Western College, Yuma, AZ
MyWritingLab, MyReadingLab - I have a BA in General Studies—Biology, Psychology, and Chemistry/Math split—from the University of Arizona; a post-baccalaureate in secondary education from the University of Arizona; and, a MA—Public Relations in Community College Education with a Photojournalism emphasis—from Northern Arizona University.
- I have taught for over 20 years with 10 of them being at the community college level. I have been a full-time developmental reading instructor at Arizona Western College for a little over five years; and, I can say that I honestly LOVE my job! Recently, I was asked why I teach, "I was one of my students—one who thought she knew how to read, but really didn't have the comprehension strategies necessary to succeed in university courses. I don't want my students to be as I was; I want them to succeed and achieve their dreams and goals and have a leg-up. That is why I exist—I am a ladder rung for them to step on, use, learn from, and attain their goals by climbing onto my shoulders to the next instructor who will take them up a rung or two higher."
- My husband, Rick, and I have been married for 21 years; I have a son, Zane (14); three unofficial adopted Polynesian sons; and, a menagerie of animals including the "love of my life"—my Arabian Horse, Sunny.
